We can find them almost everywhere - whether in a bustling city, along a fast-moving expressway, or in a quiet rural area. Under the heat of the scorching sun or drenching rain, they show up, to make sure that we are safe, and our travels are convenient. They are our roadway front liners: traffic marshals, road engineers, and road cleaners.
Behind their standardized hand signals used to direct and manage traffic flow, with the high-pitched electric buzz of the equipment at the background, the weight of the tools that they use to repair and maintain the roads, and the ever-present danger of the job, an unwavering commitment to serve endures.
For Savvice Corporation, an ISO-certified operations-and-maintenance (O&M) provider in the Philippines, their roadway frontliners are the company’s best asset.
Life of a Roadway Frontliner
Arnold S. Villados, President and General Manager of Savvice, described roadway front liners as the unsung heroes who take us to our destinations, by ensuring our safety and convenience, on and off the road.
“Maintaining road safety is a collective effort,” Arnold began. “You may think of roadway operations similar to that of a machine where each nut and bolt are equally important to ensure proper function of the machine.”
From attending to drivers’ and pedestrians’ needs at busy intersections, ensuring safety protocols are followed in the planning and construction of roadways, and being on the ground to address issues like debris or drainage problems, Arnold declared that roadway front liners are heroes on their own rights.
“When everyone works together, we create a safe road environment for all,” Arnold said
Empowering the Heroes, Enabling Mobility
Every hero faces danger, in one way or another.
Roadway frontliners face danger not only through physical and mental exhaustion, but also through exposure to the unforgiving forces of nature.
“Apart from literally braving storms and other natural disasters, incident responders including maintenance teams witness the aftermath of various unfortunate events which can lead to trauma and cause great emotional toll,” Arnold shared.
“During emergencies, immediate response is not just expected, it is a must,” Arnold added. “So no matter how physically dangerous or emotionally taxing a situation is, our roadway frontliners remain steadfast and present on the scene, doing their utmost to provide assistance in every way they can.”
Arnold shared how Savvice prioritizes the well-being of those who look after us. “We ensure our people are equipped with health and wellness programs, proper safety tools and adequate knowledge and training. on top of this, we place strong emphasis on recognizing their hard work and contributions.
A Commitment to Excellence
In 2024, Savvice received its Integrated Management System (IMS) certification. The IMS is composed of Quality Management System iso 9001:2015, Environmental management System (ISO 14001:2015), and Occupational Health and Safety Management System (IS0 45001:2018). By obtaining said accreditation, Savvice strengthened its position as a quality and reliable O&M provider.
Arnold further shared that as they continue to seek innovative solutions and practices, they keep a deep respect for the environment for sustainable products and services.
“We are dedicated to continuous improvement that focuses on catering to the evolving needs of our customers and promoting a safer, more sustainable future. That is our priority and commitment, not just to our customers but to our people as well,” Arnold expressed.
“Our accreditations are more than just recognitions; they are proof that we are committed to delivering excellent service.”
